Happy Holidays! Join Clara on her enchanting journey through a winter wonderland with her Nutcracker Prince to a Palace of Dancing Sweets. The traditional holiday classic features the talents of more than 100 local young dancers from the Northeast School of Ballet. NYB's, The Nutcracker, is inspired by the original book, The Nutcracker and the Mouse King written in 1816 by E.T.A. Hoffmann where a young girl receives a hand crafted Nutcracker from her Godfather as a gift. The Nutcracker comes to life in her dream where he defeats the evil mouse king, turns into a handsome prince, and whisks Clara away to a magical kingdom where sweets come to life and dance to celebrate their young love. The ballet originally choreographed by Marius Petipa premiered in Saint Petersburg at the Imperial Mariinsky Theater in 1892. Today, NYB’s version, is restaged and choreographed by director, Denise Cecere, with the snow scene by resident choreographer Joseph Jefferies. With beautiful costumes, lavish sets, and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's magnificent score, you are sure to experience the wonder of The Nutcracker and the magic it brings to the season.
