Bonjour! Join us on a voyage to France in C'est La Vie, NYB's 2023 Spring Series. The versatile and talented dancers of NYB will bring to the stage four very different French-inspired ballets. The program will open with the ballet, Les Sylphides, originally set on Ballets Russes is described as a “romantic reverie” and is cited as the first ballet to not have a storyline and simply be about mood and dance. Les Sylphides is composed by Frédéric Chopin and the choreography is by Mikhail Fokine. Also on the program will be the exciting Flames of Paris, composed by Boris Asafiev and choreographed by Vasily Vainonen, a well-known pas de deux celebrating the French Revolution. Two new works will make their debut in NYB’s Spring Series, by resident choreographers Joseph Jefferies and Jeremy Ruth Howes. The fun Gaite Parisienne, composed by Jaques Offenbach and newly choreographed by Joseph Jefferies, will delight the audience with flirtatious and high-spirited dance and Howes is working on a contemporary ballet inspired by her time spent in France. Be sure to grab your tickets and beret for a stroll through the streets of Paris with us!
