About the Company

Sandra McNaught, founder of the Northeast School of Ballet in 1971 and Denise Cecere, Artistic Director since 1991, believed that creating a performing company for the school would provide opportunity for their talented students.

With encouragement from a small group of patrons who wanted to preserve the art of dance for a diverse range of young dancers they founded the Northeast Youth Ballet in 1996. Since then, the company has produced ballets for hundreds of girls and boys from more than 30 cities and towns in Northeastern Massachusetts.

The company provides an extraordinary chance for amateur dancers from elementary school through college to perform in a professional environment, regardless of their background or level of training. NYB’s annual production of The Nutcracker and other full-length classical ballets, in addition to original works, have received rave reviews from local critics.

“If something is professional and good caliber it educates parents and children into expecting higher. McNaught and Cecere are the vehicle to do it.”
